"The records show that J. H. L. Hull, 4th sergeant, Company F. 10th Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army, enlisted October 31, 1861, and that he was surrendered May 26, 1865, at New Orleans. Louisiana, and was paroled in June, 1865, - exact date or place not stated."

During his period of enlistment the unit served as cavalry mainly in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The unit was later dismounted after crossing the Mississippi River, and fought in Richmond, Tennessee and in defense of Atlanta, and finally Mobile.
