There’s a Juno in Texas but not in Alaska

Did any Alaskan readers of Twelve Mile Circle watch the NBC Nightly News this evening? When did your state capital become Juno? I happened to be sort-of watching it in the background as I was working on an article I’ll post tomorrow.

The story centered on a Next Generation air traffic control system using satellite navigation systems and GPS avionics. The government is rolling it out initially to a small number of sites. That includes, if you believe the graphic:

Juneau not Juno. Screen print from the NBC Nightly News; December 25, 2010

Juno, Alaska!

For those of you not familiar with the town — I’m thinking perhaps some of the international audience — it is most assuredly Juneau, Alaska. I’ve even been there myself a couple of times.

I guess that they probably don’t have a large staff on-hand for fact checking on Christmas. Either that or someone who had to work today decided to have a little fun.

However, I’m also pretty sure they weren’t referencing the Juno in Texas.

reminds me of a good/simple trivia question to set the level of the room – the 4 state cap’s with 2 ‘u”s in the name, Juneau of course being one.

Of course, 12MC readers know this and probably have it tattooed somewhere, but it’s still a fun question.
